Titre: Naima
Artist: Monvelyno
Date: March 20, 2017

Karijazz wants to salute this diversion in Guitarist Monvelyno Alexis' career. Since his first critically acclaimed album KOUZEN AZAKAMEDE, the journey has been long in searching for new directions.

Kudos for this original approach of Naima, a ballad composed by John Coltrane in 1959 for his first wife, Juanita Naima Coltrane, who has heavily influenced his spirituality. Released in 1960 from the album "Giant Steps" for the first time, Naima is considered as one of the finest of the saxophonist's compositions. Many jazz luminaries have left their imprint on Naima. Monvelyno Alexis revisits the piece with its own experience and add his personal imprint as well.

"Naima" was recorded by several jazz giants. To cite a few, here is a list of Jazz musicians who have revisited this great standard.
Monvelyno
- Pianists McCoy Tyner and Herbie Hancock
- Trumpeter Chet Baker,
- Saxophonists Eric Alexander and David Murray,
- Guitarists Kenny Burrell and the late Larry Coryell,
- Organist Joey DeFrancesco and
- Bassist Jaco Pastorius.

To join this exiting list, Monvelyno lineups a cast of talented musicians to craft a new version of Naima.

The Cast:
Monvelyno: Guitar and Voice – Benito Gonzalez: Piano – Paul Austerlitz: Clarinet Baritone – Motoki Mihara: Bass

Enjoy!
